ALEX Tomlins - BIo
“Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour is one of those guitarists you could only hope to half-imitate, and you’ll never be able to do what he does on the guitar. But this guy [Alex Tomlins] took on the beast, and he won.”
- Texas’ Classic Rock 96.1
Based in Nashville, TN, Alex Tomlins is a guitarist, studio musician, songwriter and producer from Australia. He has over ten years of industry experience, and also holds a Bachelor of Music majoring in performance from QUT (Brisbane, Australia).
As a guitarist for hire, Alex has worked in both studio and live settings, primarily in the country and rock genres, as well as blues, alternative and jazz. As a lead guitarist and backing vocalist, he has performed for corporate bands, national and international artists including Jackson Capps (USA), Codie Prevost (CAN), Amy Nelson (CAN), Hathaways (USA), Sarah Lake (USA), Matt Breen (UK), James Johnson, Seleen McAlister, Megan Cooper, Emma Beau and Chrislyn Hamilton.
Alex’s original collaborative projects have performed nationally and internationally, including major festivals CMC Rocks, Gympie Music Muster, and Tunes In The Tropics (Fiji) and achieved charting success on iTunes and radio charts, as well as the Country Music Channel.
Alex’s passion for music started at a young age with his dad showing him the guitar solo to Pink Floyds’ ‘Comfortably Numb’. This is when he realized how much emotion can be conveyed while playing an instrument. Soon after, at the age of 14, Alex started playing guitar. A few years later Alex attended his first concert, U2 (supported by Kanye West) and this experience showed him how important live performance is and how you can convey yourself as an artist on stage in front of an audience. Growing up, Alex wouldn’t put the guitar down, playing for hours on end each day and on occasion falling asleep, Telecaster in arm.
